MADE TO SNATCH THE LEAD Thoroughly enhanced for MY 2011, the new RC8 R benefits massively from racing, with KTM factory riders closely collaborating with the developers and providing input from the analysis of their IDM Superbike races. A new crankshaft and revised flywheel masses have the 75° twin revving even more smoothly. Then there is a new dual-plug ignition for enhanced combustion control, with the pleasant side effect of more power – output now peaks at 175 PS and torque at 127 Nm. The chassis has a new eccentric bracket in the rear wheel suspension linkage, allowing for quick ride height adjustment. The extensive re-tuning of the suspension has yielded a more composed and comfortable ride, felt not the least on public roads. In that context, the new OEM tire choice is a perfect match – the fantastic Dunlop SportSmart, launched only recently, is the first uncompromising hypersports tire to also deliver a first-rate performance in everyday road riding, even in the wet. All in all a consistent Superbike evolution, with only one thing remaining as before – great fun on every mile! |
